WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
What can you expect?
Your future workday
You get into your car in the morning and drive to the first job on the schedule. One of the customers has an automation malfunction that needs to be resolved. You drive to the customer, and as you enter, the customer is already waiting for you. They want to depart as soon as possible, but the ship is indicating a malfunction. Since you are familiar with this issue, it is easy for you to fix. You get to work and resolve the malfunction within an hour. You shake hands with the customer and let them know they can depart. The customer is happy, and you are happy!
After that, you drive to a shipyard nearby. We are busy building a new ship, and the construction is in its final phase, so the pressure on the project is increasing. You work together with a colleague from the team, also a programmer, to further adjust the commissioning. The sea trial is scheduled for the end of the week, so you need to speed up together with the project team!
The great thing about working as a PLC programmer is that every day is different. One day, you might be troubleshooting and doing some maintenance work. Another day, you might be fully commissioning a ship! Lastly, there are also days where you perform preparatory work at the office. What more could you ask for? To give you a better idea, here’s a brief overview of all the tasks/responsibilities:
- You independently and collaboratively develop PLC software for ship and offshore installations.
- You translate customer requirements into concrete PLC software.
- You design and build software for HMI touchscreens.
- You design, configure, and write software for frequency controllers and servo controllers.
- You assist customers and service technicians in troubleshooting.
- You perform commissioning activities on-site with our (international) customers.

Wat je kan verwachten
Wat kan je verwachten
Jouw toekomstige werkdag
