The German customer Hegemann was looking for a green concept for a trailing suction hopper dredger. For this they turned to the Kooiman Marine Group. Since we have successfully delivered a green concept at HSE before, we were recommended to do this project. Together with the shipyard, we travelled to Germany to present a plan and advice.
The initiative consisted of three generators that run variable speeds and therefore emit less emissions and produce less noise. We were also able to apply HSE’s own systems and new ideas, which immediately satisfied the customer.
What is the goal?
For a trailing suction hopper dredger, the Hegemann V is more compact than normal. It is equipped with rainbow and discharge installations so that the Hegemann V can easily restore beaches after a storm, for example. Because we have delivered trailing suction hopper dredgers more often, we knew exactly how to approach this.
Wat heeft Oechies betekend?
Fully electric
The Hegemann V is fully electric. Even the dredging pumps are electric. For this size of vessel it is not usual to be fully electrified. The advantage is that the Hegemann V is efficient and requires considerably less fuel.
