The port of Antwerp is the second largest port in Europe. Kooiman Marine Group asked whether HSE could build a green patrol boat that will sail in Antwerp. The port is not as extensive as that in Rotterdam, for example, but ships can sail further into the city centre. This ensures that the patrol boat must be able to sail in and out of the centre without emissions.

What is the goal?
Inspired by the RPA8 patrol boat that sails in the port of Rotterdam, the POA1 and POA2 were built by Kooiman Marine Group for the port of Antwerp. The big difference with the RPA8 is that the POA vessels have been given a separate battery compartment in the hull shape that remains the same as that of the RPA8.
Ruim drie jaar geleden zijn we gestart met de eerste voorbereidingen. Vanaf het begin af aan was het belangrijk dat niets ten koste van de luxe zou gaan. Hierdoor is alle elektra volledig onzichtbaar verwerkt door het gehele schip heen. De techniek moest zich aanpassen en dat lukte. Ook is de A-Rosa Sena uitgerust met reserve stroomgeneratoren en accu’s. Dit zorgt ervoor dat passagiers ten alle tijden een fijne cruise ervaren zonder stress of paniek.
Bij A-Rosa staan investeringen ten gunste van het klimaat hoog in het vaandel. De A-Rosa Sena is in staat om de havens schoon binnen te varen. Dit komt vanwege de hybride aandrijving die door ons is aangelegd. Het schip heeft dieselmotoren, elektromotoren en een extra accupakket. Zodra het schip de havens verlaat, schakelt het over op de dieselmotor.

It was a challenge to accommodate all systems and equipment without taking up all of the available space. Like a puzzle piece, everything is neatly placed and connected.
The patrol boat is equipped with battery packs and has hybrid propulsion, which ensures that the boat can indeed enter the port of Antwerp emission-free.
